Based on the Bezanson research I have seen the name originates in Nova Scotia, an Anglicized spelling of family name brought to our shores by Jean George Besançon and his family who arrived in Halifax on the ship Speedwell in 1752. They were from Montbeliard, a Principality now part of France. From this meager basis the family name changed over the course of a single generation. As descendants looked for brighter prospects the Bezanson name spread to other parts of Nova Scotia, to the United States and Western Canada, to the Caribbean, and as far away as Australia.

I have recieved a number of requests about a family crest ( also called a blazon or coat of arms) mentioned by Dorothy Evans in her book Bezansons from Nova Scotia and others but to date the only thing I have seen is one from about 30 years ago. I cannot ascertain its authenticity but based on lack of published evidance I have reason to believe it is a fake. I show it here as a curiosity more than anything else.

I hope you will take the time to browse my family database. Much of this data has been researched by others and I neither make claim of accuracy nor take credit for the tremendous amount of work researching this information. I simply thank all those who have done so much with so little thanks - we are so grateful...

Enjoy...
